FAQs

No. Number Plate Supply manufactures physical replacement number plates using a registration that you are already entitled to use.

We do not sell, assign or transfer personalised registration numbers. If you have purchased a private registration, you must complete the appropriate DVLA assignment process before displaying it on a vehicle.

Our standard vehicle number plates are manufactured to meet the current requirements for UK road-use number plates.

This includes the correct reflective background, legal character style and spacing, supplier markings and the applicable British Standard marking, BS AU 145e.

The front plate has black characters on a white reflective background, while the rear plate has black characters on a yellow reflective background.

Registered number plate suppliers must check the identity of the person ordering the plates and confirm that they are entitled to use the registration.

This helps prevent number plate fraud and ensures that road-legal plates are only supplied to authorised customers.

We cannot dispatch your plates until the required documents have been received and approved.

You can provide an accepted document showing your name and address, such as:

  • A driving licence
  • A utility, Council Tax or rates bill issued within the last six months
  • A bank or building society statement issued within the last six months
  • A government-issued national identity card

Documents must be current, clear and readable. The name and address must be visible.

Accepted entitlement documents include:

  • Vehicle registration certificate – V5C or V5CNI
  • Green new keeper slip from a V5C or V5CNI
  • Certificate of entitlement – V750 or V750NI
  • Retention document – V778
  • Vehicle tax or SORN renewal reminder – V11 or V11NI
  • Temporary registration certificate – V379 or V379NI
  • Number plate authorisation certificate – V948
  • Electronic number plate authorisation certificate – eV948 or eV948/2
  • A suitable letter of authority from a lease, hire or fleet operator

The registration shown on the document must match the registration ordered.

You can upload clear photographs or scans using our secure document upload page.

Please ensure that the entire document is visible, all details are readable and there is no glare covering important information.

We use the documents to verify your order and meet our legal record-keeping obligations. They are not printed inside your package.

No. We only manufacture number plates using the legally required character layout and spacing.

Letters and numbers cannot be rearranged, moved closer together or altered to make the registration resemble a name or word.

Incorrectly displayed registrations can result in an MOT failure and a fine of up to £1,000.

Yes. Our plate builder allows you to order:

Make sure you select the correct option before completing your order.

Yes. The available legal design options are displayed in our number plate builder.

You can preview permitted borders, badges and identifiers before placing your order. A green EV strip should only be selected for an eligible zero-emission vehicle.

The finished plates will be manufactured using the options shown in your order confirmation.

No. Vehicle fixing positions vary between makes and models, so plates are normally supplied without pre-drilled holes.

This avoids placing holes in the wrong position and allows you to use your preferred fitting method.

You can attach your plates using suitable screws, plastic nuts and bolts, or automotive adhesive fixing strips.

If drilling new plates, remove the old plate and use it as a positioning template. Support the new plate on a flat surface and take care not to crack or damage it.

Our optional fixing kit contains:

  • White metal screws and domes
  • Yellow metal screws and domes
  • Black metal screws and domes
  • White plastic nuts and bolts
  • Yellow plastic nuts and bolts
  • Black plastic nuts and bolts
  • Velcro or adhesive fixing strips

We can begin processing your order once payment has been received and your identity and entitlement documents have been approved.

Orders placed during weekends or bank holidays will be processed from the next working day.

Delivery estimates begin when the completed plates are handed to Royal Mail, not when the order is originally placed.

We currently offer the following Royal Mail services:

  • Tracked 48: Royal Mail aims to deliver within two to three working days after dispatch.
  • Tracked 24: Royal Mail aims to deliver on the next working day after dispatch.
  • Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm: Delivery by 1pm on the next working day, subject to Royal Mail cut-off times, postcode exclusions and service conditions.

Tracked 24 and Tracked 48 are delivery aims and are not guaranteed services.

Once your Royal Mail label has been generated, the tracking number will be added to your WooCommerce order and emailed to the billing email address supplied during checkout.

You can enter the number on the Royal Mail Track and Trace website.

Please allow a short period for the first tracking event to appear after dispatch.

Royal Mail tracking may not update immediately after a label is generated. The first scan can appear later when the package enters the Royal Mail network.

If your order has passed its expected delivery period without an update, contact us with your order number, delivery postcode and tracking number. As the sender, we can make enquiries with Royal Mail where appropriate.

Contact us immediately if you need to change or cancel an order.

Every plate is personalised and made using the registration and options supplied at checkout. If manufacture has not started, we will normally be able to amend or cancel the order.

Once production has begun, it will not be possible to change or cancel it.

Number plates are personalised, made-to-order products. The standard right to return an online purchase because you have changed your mind does not apply once manufacture has begun.

We cannot accept a return because you ordered the wrong registration or selected the wrong plate options.

This does not affect your rights if the plates are faulty, damaged, incorrectly manufactured or not as described.

Contact us as soon as possible and provide your order number together with clear photographs showing the problem.

If the package was damaged during delivery, please also photograph the external packaging and Royal Mail label, and retain all packaging until we have advised you what to do.

Where we have made an error or the plates are faulty, we will provide an appropriate remedy. This may include correcting or replacing the plates, arranging a return, or issuing a partial or full refund.

Please review the live preview and order summary carefully before paying.

We manufacture the plates using the registration, size, plate combination, border, badge, EV strip and fixing option confirmed at checkout.

If you notice a mistake, contact us immediately. We may be able to correct it if production has not started. Once personalised plates have been manufactured, they cannot normally be refunded or remade free of charge because incorrect information was supplied with the order.

Yes. If you regularly require replacement number plates or would like to discuss a larger order, please contact us with details of the quantities and plate types you need.

We can review your requirements and advise whether trade or volume pricing is available.

You can pay securely during checkout using the payment methods displayed on the website. Available methods may include major debit and credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, depending on your device and browser.

Payment must be authorised before we can begin processing the order.
